| Construction Method in Cardboard |
These basic tools are used to cut out the corrigated cardboard parts. A metal streight edge, cutting board and clamps are used to keep the lines accurate. Use a sharp kinfe to make the cuts. |
Using a a backing board to cut against, deminsions can be kept and edges streight. Layout needs to accurate because sone of the parts are stacked and glued together. |
Not all corrigated cardboard is the same thickness. Stack the parts and apply enough gentle pressure to make stacks the correct thickness. This should be 3 or 4 sheets thick. |
| Glue the cut pieces to make top, middle and bottom sections. The three sections must be seperate so the edges can be covered. Pressing the sections flat while drying will help keep them from bending because of the moisture of the glue. The need to be very dry for the next process. |
| The tape used is Kraft paper tape with water activated glue. This is the regular packing tape. There are two types of this tape. The re-enforced type has threads in it. These will show later if used. The plain type will shrink when dried. Do not soak the tape. Wet it quickly and use it right away. |
Cover the edges with paper tape. Smooth the surface ane edges. Let each layer dry. Work out any creases. The better the surface when the tape is applied, the less patching and filler will be needed later. |
After the edges have been covered, glue the three layers together. Use weights to keep the parts flat. Let the frame dry before going on. |
Make any changes to the width of the end and side pieces. Cut the pieces to shape. Mark where the fold lines should be and check all 4 peices. |
Mark the thickness of the frame. This will be the glue area and the fold lines. |
Use a strong streight edge to make the creases on the ends and sides. |
| Glue the ends and sides as marked. When dry, bend the ends and sides so the edges are aligned and tape them. Cut a top piece and use tape to attach it. Use tape on the inside seams. Cover all seams to make a finished surface. |
